How Much Does It Cost to Study in Canada? (2026)

Canada attracted over 800,000 international students in 2024 before new admission caps were introduced. It remains one of the most accessible English/French-language study destinations globally.

Living costs and IRCC requirement

From January 2024, IRCC requires study permit applicants to show CAD$20,635/year in funds (up from CAD$10,000). Actual student living costs by city:

Scholarships

International student caps (2024)

Canada introduced admission caps for undergraduate international students starting 2024. This means some programmes and institutions have fewer international student places than previously. Apply early and have backup options.
